Phnom Penh(VNA) –
The National Assembly of Vietnam has presented the Cambodian Senate withcomputers, printers, and photocopiers worth over 140,000 USD.

Vietnamese Ambassador toCambodia Vu Quang Minh handed over the gift to President of the Senate ofCambodia Samdech Say Chhum in Phnom Penh on February 6.

On the occasion, theCambodian Senate President spoke highly of the cooperation achievements betweenthe two countries’ Parties and States over the past time and expressed hispleasure over the sound traditional friendship that brings enormous benefitsfor the two people.

He took this occasion to thank the VietnameseParty, State and people for helping Cambodian people escape from the Pol Potgenocide regime and revive the country.

The close ties and active cooperation betweenthe two governments and peoples not only contribute to the maintenance of peaceand stability in the respective nations but also in the region and around theworld, he said.

Earlier on February 5, President of the NationalAssembly of Cambodia Samdech Heng Samrin recieved the Vietnamese Ambassador,during which he called on the two countries’ people to promote the bilateraltraditional friendship and cooperation in various fields.

Speaking at the meetings,Ambassador Minh extended the greetings of Party General Secretary Nguyen PhuTrong, President Tran Dai Quang, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, and NationalAssembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan to the Cambodian top legislators.

He pledged to do his utmost in his workingtenure to nurture the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperationbetween Vietnam and Cambodia.

The equipment presentedby the Vietnamese NA will be used for senators elected for the new term of theCambodian Senate during this month’s election. -VNA

NA Standing Committee discusses continued VAT reduction

The Government proposed a two-percentage-point reduction in VAT - from 10% to 8% - on goods and services currently subject to the 10% rate. This excludes certain sectors such as telecommunications, finance, banking, securities, insurance, real estate, metals, mineral products (excluding coal), and goods and services subject to special consumption tax (excluding petrol). The proposed timeframe for the reduction is from July 1, 2025 to December 31, 2026.

Vietnam, Laos push toward effective, sustainable trade relations

In the first quarter of 2025, Vietnam-Laos trade reached 980.1 million USD, a surge of 105.5% compared to the same period in 2024. Exports from Vietnam valued at 346.4 million USD, representing soaring 138.6%. Meanwhile, imports from Laos rose by 91.1% to 633.6 million USD.
