Vietnam should take coordinated measures to actively cope with climate change between now and 2020, including policies on food, energy and water resource security, poverty reduction, gender equality, social welfare, public health and protection of natural resources.
Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Sinh, President of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment (VACNE), made the suggestion at a seminar on global climate change and Vietnam ’s adaptation measures, which was held in Hanoi on December 11.
The seminar focused on discussing measures to actively cope with climate change and safeguard natural resources and the environment, as well as the role of the scientific and technological community in the battle.
Participants agreed that with the impacts of climate change, natural disasters are increasing - causing great losses of human life and property, as well as negative impacts on the environment.
Therefore, a low-carbon and green growth economy is the trend for sustainable development, they said.
They emphasised the need to raise concerned parties’ awareness, responsibility and capacity to deal with climate change, as well as promoting environmentally-friendly consumption./.VNA
