Relations between Vietnam and the Netherlands have been flourishing, said Vietnamese Ambassador to the European country Nguyen Van Doan.

Talking with Vietnam News Agency’s reporters on July 1 upon the arrival of Vice Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Uong Chu Luu in the country for a working visit, Doan said the two countries have conducted regular visit exchanges to boost their political ties.

He recalled Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s visit to Vietnam in June and Vietnamese PM Nguyen Tan Dung’s visit to the country in March to attend the Nuclear Security Summit.

The diplomat said the Dutch Government is closely following the East Sea situation and supports the European Union’s statement on the issue.

The Government expressed deep concerns over the tension, triggered by China’s stationing of the oil rig Haiyang Shiyou-981 in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone, and called on all sides concerned to solve the issue peacefully, according to Doan.

Earlier on the day, Doan together with the embassy’s staff and the Vietnamese community in the Netherlands welcomed Vice Chairman Luu, who updated them on the NA’s operation as well as the socio-economic situation at home.

Luu also informed about the latest developments in the East Sea and affirmed the State and Party’s determination to safeguard Vietnam’s sovereignty peacefully.

He asked the embassy to provide more favourable conditions for Vietnamese people, particularly youngsters, in the host country so they can work further to benefit both countries.

In the time ahead, the NA will make amendments to the Law on Housing to make it easier for overseas Vietnamese people to buy properties in their homeland, he noted.-VNA
