A centre which programmes robots to operate endoscopic surgeries was inaugurated at the Central Pediatrics Hospital in Hanoi on February 27 - Vietnamese Physicians’ Day.
The centre, the first of its kind in Vietnam, is expected to perform operations for 100 cases from now to the end of 2014.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Health Minister Nguyen Viet Tien congratulated the hospital’s medical staff on Vietnamese Physicians’ Day.
He confirmed that the hospital’s surgeons can now use robots in endoscopic surgeries proficiently after being trained in the Philippines, Singapore and the Republic of Korea. They have to date succeeded in operating on eight patients.
The robots have highly flexible arms, which can rotate 360 degrees and manoeuvre into inaccessible positions with unrivalled precision compared to conventional surgeries with endoscopic tubes.
They can be used effectively in treating diseases related to the large intestine, kidney and bile duct.-VNA
