Vietnam Party chief meets Chinese Premier, NPC Chairman

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong met with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Zhang Dejiang in Beijing on April 8.
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong met with Chinese Premier LiKeqiang and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’sCongress (NPC) Zhang Dejiang in Beijing on April 8, stressing hiscountry treasures its friendship and cooperation with China.

Meeting with Premier Li Keqiang, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trongcongratulated China on its important socio-economic achievements andaffirmed that Vietnam highly appreciates China’s significant assistanceduring its past struggle for national liberation and current socialismbuilding.

He briefed the host on the outcomes of histalks with General Secretary of the Communist Party of China andPresident Xi Jinping, asking the two Governments to direct the full andeffective implementation of agreements and common perceptions betweenleaders of the two Parties and States to enhance their comprehensivestrategic cooperative partnership.

Premier LiKeqiang likewise congratulated Vietnam on its considerable attainmentsand voiced his belief that under the leadership of the Communist Partyof Vietnam, the Southeast Asian country will reap greateraccomplishments in the time to come.

The two leadersshared the view that the intensification of relations, political trustbetween their leaders and friendship between their peoples are of theutmost importance to each country’s development and benefits as well asregional peace, stability, cooperation and development.

They exchanged in-depth opinions on steering the implementation ofagreements and common perceptions of the countries’ leaders and agreedto bolster the stable, balanced and sustainable development of economic,trade and investment cooperation and increase comprehensivecollaboration between their localities.

The twoagreed that Vietnam and China will carry out agreements on their sharedland border and the agreement on basic principles guiding the settlementof sea-related issues. They will effectively utilise theGovernment-level negotiation mechanism on Vietnam-China border andterritorial issues while working together to manage disputes, settlearising matters satisfactorily, maintain peace and stability at sea,speed up result-oriented negotiations to work out appropriate measuresaddressing sea-related issues and boost cooperation in the waters offthe mouth of the Tonkin Gulf.

On the occasion, PartyGeneral Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong conveyed to Premier Li Keqiang aninvitation to visit Vietnam from Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

Meeting with Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee Zhang Dejiang, theVietnamese Party leader said as the two countries step up the buildingof socialist States ruled by law, it is critical for their parliamentsand parliamentary bodies to tighten practical and effective exchange andcooperation.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trongsaid he supports the National Assembly of Vietnam and the NPC inexpanding delegation exchanges and information and legislativeexperience sharing.

Chairman Zhang Dejiang describedthe Vietnamese delegation’s visit as a substantial contribution to thestable and healthy development of relations between the two Parties andStates, ultimately furthering the comprehensive strategic cooperativepartnership.

He said their traditional friendshipnurtured by Presidents Ho Chi Minh and Mao Zedong and other leaders is aprecious asset that both Vietnam and China need to treasure andconsolidate.

He also congratulated Vietnam on thesuccessful organisation of the 132 nd Assembly of theInter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-132).

The two leadersconcurred that both sides need to exert all efforts to strengthenpolitical trust between the two Parties and States through high-rankingvisits and candid discussions of opinions.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong thanked the NPC for its active contributions to the success of the IPU-132.

At the meeting, he also sent National Assembly Chairman Nguyen SinhHung’s invitation to visit Vietnam to Chairman Zhang Dejiang, whoaccepted the invitation with pleasure.-VNA

According to historical records, the area once served as an operational base for units of Regiments 609, 66, 24 and 320, as well as staff and logistics agencies of the Central Highlands front (B3) during the 1966–1969 period.
