The 70th founding anniversary of the Vietnam’s People Army (VPA) was marked at a recent ceremony at the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia.

Addressing the ceremony on December 2, Ambassador Luong Thanh Nghi affirmed that the VPA always actively participated in international cooperation activities on the principles of equality and mutual respect.

He took the occasion to highlight the 14-year cooperation between Vietnam and Australia in the security-defence field after Australia opened its defence attaché office in Hanoi in 1999 and Vietnam launched its in Canberra in 2000.

The two countries have exchanged many visits of high-ranking delegations and worked together in solving post-war issues such as removing bombs and mines left by the war. Australia also grants scholarships to Vietnamese officers to study in the country.

The two defence ministries have also cooperated in the fields of fighting terrorism, border control, preventing cross-border crime, military medicine and search and rescue, contributing to the multi-faceted ties between the two countries, the ambassador said at the event.-VNA
