to effectively implement projects funded by international
non-governmental organisations (INGOs), Deputy Minister of Public Health
Nguyen Viet Tien has said.
Deputy Minister Tien made the statement at a meeting between the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) and INGOs on Dec. 13 in Hanoi .
The meeting aims to promote dialogues, information exchange and discussions on raising INGOs’ role in implementing development goals of the health sector.
By mid 2009, more than 100 INGOs had financed 450 health care programmes and projects. By June last year, the MoPH had managed 122 NGOs-funded projects, worth nearly 115 million USD.
These projects focused on scientific research, personnel training, disease prevention, charitable operation, and information technology assistance.
INGOs projects contributed to upgrading infrastructure and improving the quality of health care services.
Deputy Minister Tien said the Vietnamese Government pursues a policy of strengthening international cooperation and creating favourable conditions for INGOs to effectively operate in the country.
On behalf of INGOs, Lotta Sylwander, Chief Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) affirmed willingness to join MoPH in to realising health care strategies and plans./.
