A ceremony was held in Hanoi on December 13 to see off the Vietnamese team when they departed to attend the 15 th ASEAN University Games.

The games, which will be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand from December 15-23, is an excellent opportunity for Vietnamese students to enrich their life experience and improve sports in the country’s schools, said the Deputy Education and Training Minister Tran Quang Quy at the ceremony.

The Vietnamese team will compete in eight out of 17 sporting events, including athletics, pencak silat, football, swimming, table tennis, Taekwondo, karatedo and beach volleyball and expect to win medals in the athletics and martial arts events.

The Vietnamese team were ranked second after host country Malaysia at the 14 th ASEAN University Games in 2008./.
