– The Vietnamese Defence Ministry’s External Affairs Department and a senior officer of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA) have presented 75 desktop computers and 75 Canon printers to the Lao People’s Army.

The gift was handed over to the Lao People’s Army (LPA) at a ceremony at the headquarters of the Lao Ministry of Defence on August 30.

The computers and printers are intended to help the five key divisions of the LPA use information technology in their operations.

Speaking at the ceremony, Colonel Tao Van Thai, head of the Vietnamese Defence Attaché to Laos, emphasised that the 21st century is the century of information technology that plays an important part in all fields, including the military.

On his part, Major General Sonthong Phommavong, Deputy Director of the LPA General Department of Politics , expressed thanks to Senior Lieutenant General Luong Cuong , Director of the VPA General Department of Politics and the Defence Ministry’s External Affairs Department for the gift.

He also took the occasion to thanked the Party, State and VPA for the great assistance they have given to Laos in the past years and affirmed the LPA will continue to make efforts to preserve and promote the special relationship between the two armies in particular and the two countries in general.-VNA
