On August 10, Vietnam handed over nearly 3,000 social science books written in Vietnamese, English and French, to the Lao Academy of Social Sciences in a bid to enrich its resources for research.

The ceremony to hand over those books was held in the Lao capital Vientiane by Viet Nam Academy of Social Sciences President Do Hoai Nam and his Lao counterpart, Sileua Bounkham.

Most of the books presented to Laos (over 2,400) were selected from the archives of Vietnam Institute of Social Sciences Information and 50 others written about Laos were chosen from the French School of the Far East. The remaining 405 are on the renovation and development cause in Vietnam.

Speaking at the ceremony, Lao Academy of Social Sciences President Sileua Bounkham stressed that the books will complete his institute’s sparse archives.

Laos also considers this a concrete action reflecting the comprehensive cooperation between researchers of social sciences in the two countries in the spirit of the Viet-Lao special friendship./.
