Vietnamese artists and businesses are putting their best foot forward to promote the country’s image at the 27th International Trade Fair held by France ’s southern city of Perpinan .

They treated visitors to the trade fair, which opened on April 15, to a programme called “Discovering Vietnam” that features the country’s distinctive water puppetry, cuisine, and music.

Perpinan Mayor Jean-Marc Pujol said Vietnam ’s presence at the fair, though as an honorary guest, demonstrates the friendship and cultural closeness between the two countries.

“ Vietnam has shown its openness and it has received a warm welcome from Perpinan citizens,” the Mayor said, expressing hope that his city would establish friendly ties with other Vietnamese cities.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to France Le Kinh Tai said Perpinan has great potential for cooperating with Vietnam in the future. With its favourable geographical location, the city can help Vietnam enter southern Europe and the Mediterranean region.

Held annually, the Perpinan trade fair offers a good chance for Vietnam to draw French visitors to its major festivals this year, including the celebration of Hanoi ’s 1,000 anniversary to be held in October.

Last year, the Perpinan fair attracted 50,000 visitors./.
