Vietnam persistently pursues a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation, development, multilateralisation and diversification of relations, and intensive international integration in developing its relationship with the Philippines.

Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson Le Hai Binh made the remarks when answering reporters’ queries regarding the Philippines’s recent news articles conveying the country’s wish to elevate its relationship with Vietnam to a strategic partnership this year at the ministry’s regular press conference in Hanoi on September 10.

He said he believed that the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and and the Philippines will continue to actively contribute to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in Southeast Asia and Asia-Pacific.

Vietnam always treasures and develops relations with all countries in a healthy and mutually beneficial manner in the interest of the Vietnamese people and for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the Asia-Pacific region, the spokesman said, emphasising ties with neighbouring countries and other ASEAN member states.-VNA
