About 1,500 volunteers throughout the country are readying themselves for global Moving Planet Day on Sept. 24.
Volunteers across the world will be promoting green activities by walking, cycling and skating in a bid to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
This will be the third year Vietnam has participated in the event, but the first time the whole country will be taking part.
Since August, volunteers in 16 cities and provinces have been taking part in environmentally friendly activities under the banner 350ppm, the maximum safe limit for CO2 levels in the atmosphere. The present level is 393ppm.
Meanwhile, on Sept. 19 the Month for Green Colour at Schools kicked off. Thirty schools will take part in the programme that will last until mid-October. The programme aims to encourage students to collect waste paper for recycling and to organise artistic events to promote environmental awareness.
In the capital on Sept. 24 hundreds of people will form themselves into the number 350 at Thong Nhat Park between 6.30am and 11am. In addition, 350 cyclists will be promoting environmental awareness.
Further south, Hue Sciences University 's Green Friendship Club will host various activities between 7am and 8pm on Sept. 24 such as planting trees, a recycling festival, a painting exhibition on the theme of environmental protection and a display of recycled products on Nguyen Dinh Chieu Pedestrian street .
In Da Nang , Week without Plastic Straws, 350 Commitments to Lead a Green Life and Advertising on 350.org on Buses will take place.
In HCM City , 350 volunteers will ride bicycles to promote green thinking on Sept. 24 morning. In the afternoon, roller skaters, cyclists and hip hop dancing will be promoting the theme Moving Arts for Climate. A massive artwork made out plastic straws will also promote environmentally awareness.
