Foreign Ministry Spokesman Luong Thanh Nghi on April 21 refutes the findings in the 2012 US global human rights report.

Nghi reaffirmed Vietnam ’s consistent policy of promoting and respecting the fundamental rights of all residents, saying all residents are allowed to exercise their rights within the law.

He went on to say that the report, despite acknowledging some progress in Vietnam’s human rights record, continued to base on erroneous information on the situation in Vietnam and provided subjective comments on the enforcement of human rights in the country.

This will not help promote the relationship between the two countries, Nghi said, stressing that a regular dialogue on human rights has been maintained by the two sides.

The spokesman said Vietnam hopes that straight and constructive dialogues like the one held in April 12 will provide both sides with an objective and factual perspective on the exercise of human rights in each country, thus further promoting mutual understanding as well as the relationship between the two countries.-VNA
