Vietnam has been re-elected as Vice Chair of the Francophone Parliamentary Alliance (APF) at the 35 th APF General Assembly and Executive Committee that took place in Paris, France, from July 1-6.

Vietnam’s report on its experiences in coping with negative impacts of the global economic crisis was appreciated by the participants, who agreed that Vietnam’s measures and policies to deal with the crisis are useful for developing nations.

The Vietnamese delegation also presented a speech on the popularisation of the French language. They called on the International Organisation of Francophone Countries (OIF) and the APF to increase their presence in Vietnam and take effective measures to encourage the use of French in Asia.

The Vietnamese delegates played an active role in activities of the APF General Assembly and Executive Committee, the APF Network of Women Parliamentarians, and APF Committees of Politics, Cooperation and Development, Parliamentary Issues, Education and Cultural Issues.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the Vietnam delegation held meetings with their Lao and Cambodian counterparts and discuss orientations for future tripartite cooperation.

Vietnam has been elected to the APF Vice Chair consecutively since 1997./.
