Vietnamese health officials on Sept. 10 confirmed 299 more cases of A/H1N1 infection, bringing the country’s total number to 6,478.

Of the new cases, 202 patients are in the south, 48 in the north, 37 in the central region and the others are in the Central Highlands, reported the Preventive Medicine and Environment under the Health Ministry.

The department said that as of Sept. 19, among the infection cases, seven patients have died of the disease, 4,624 people were discharged from hospital and the remainders are currently quarantined for treatment.

To prevent the widespread of the epidemic, the ministry urged people, especially sick persons, pregnant women, the elderly and children, to continue taking preventive measures and avoid getting directly in touch with those suspected of contracting the deadly virus.

Statistics released by the World Health Organisation, more than 300,000 A/H1N1 patients were reported in countries and territories worldwide at the beginning of September, including over 3,000 deaths./.
