Several Vietnamese universities have recently been named in lists of best universities in Asia and in the world by prestigious ranking organisations.

According to the 2022 QS World University Rankings by UK educational organisation Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) and the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (VNU HCM) featured in Group 801-1,000 best universities globally for the fourth time in a row. Their rankings have improved over the past three years.
In the latest QS rankings, the VNU and the VNU HCM have been placed at the 499th and 398th in the world for academic reputation, up 25 and 3 places against 2021, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Ton Duc Thang University and the Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), have been named in the list for the first time, in the 1001-1200 Group and 1201 Plus Group respectively.
Regarding the marks for the employer reputation metric, the VNU has posted an increase of 8 percent annually, while both the VNU HCM and HUST have been placed in the 501+ globally.

The ranking criteria emphasise the contribution and impact of a university’s quality of training and research to society (through the assessment of businesses, as well as domestic and foreign scholars), and its contribution to scientific research (via the number of citations/lecturers).

The VNU is placed in the 251-300 group, HUST in the 351 - 400, and VNU HCM in the 401+.
The rankings assessed 551 institutions from 30 Asian countries and territories this year. In 2020, the number of institutions was 500.
Universities were ranked by performance in five areas: teaching (learning environment); research (volume, income, and reputation); citations (research influence); international outlook (staff, students, and research); and industry income (knowledge transfer).
Among the Vietnamese representatives, the VNU achieved the highest score in the areas of teaching, research, citations, and international outlook, while the VNU HCM earned the highest score in industry income./.
The VNU is one of the two leading multidisciplinary and multi-sectoral national universities in Vietnam, tasked with producing highly qualified human resources for the development of the country.
