Vietnam always respects ASEAN’s principles of consensus and non-interference in internal affairs of any member countries, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on April 18.
Spokesperson Nguyen Phuong Nga delivered the statement when asked why Vietnam had not issued a statement of ASEAN chair and convened a high-ranking special meeting on the situation in Thailand .
Vietnam , as ASEAN’s chair, consulted with Thailand and other ASEAN member countries on issuing the chair’s statement on the political unrest in Thailand , Nga said.
Based on feedbacks from ASEAN member countries and the developments of the situation in Thailand , Vietnam finds it unnecessary to issue the statement at this point, she said.
Also, ASEAN member countries have not endorsed the convention of a high-ranking special meeting on the Thai’s situation./.
