Vietnamese Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat and his Russian counterpart have discussed the continuation of the two countries’ agriculture cooperation.

During their talks on July 14, Minister Phat and Russian Minister of Agriculture Elena Skrynnik discussed the implementation of an agreement reached at a recent session of the Vietnam-Russia Joint-governmental Committee for Economic, Commercial, Scientific and Technical Cooperation regarding the establishment of a working group in charge of agro-industry issues.

The two ministers agreed that at the group’s upcoming first meeting, the two sides will set up a joint-venture in the processing of tea, coffee and aquatic products.

They will work together in controlling the quality and safety of Vietnam’s agro-fishery products exported to Russia and intensify cooperation in freshwater fish breeding.

Russia will help Vietnam in training agricultural staff and the two countries will send delegations to each other to exchange experience in agriculture.

Minister Skrynnik pledged that her ministry will cooperate with Vietnam ’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in carrying out joint-venture projects and increasing the importation of Vietnam ’s agricultural and aquatic products.

In addition, she said Russia is eager to provide Vietnam with a list of Russian companies that are interested in irrigation projects in Vietnam .

Earlier, Minister Phat met with representatives from Russia’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry and authorities in charge of importing Vietnam ’s aquatic products./.
