Vietnamese businesses have a chance to look at opportunities to do business in South Africa thanks to a workshop on promoting bilateral trade in Ho Chi Minh City on March 18.

The workshop, jointly held by the State Capital Investment Corporation (SCIC) and the South Africa Consulate Office in HCM City , served as a bridge for businesses from both sides to expand their cooperation in many areas, promoting bilateral trade, Do Thi Kim Lien, honorary consul of South Africa in HCM City , said at the event.

Adriaann Du Pisanie, First Secretary at the South African Embassy to Vietnam , spoke on potential areas for economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, particularly in agriculture, mining, production technology and services.

South Africa is a potential growth market for Vietnamese products such as rice, coffee, tea, pepper, cashew nuts and tropical fruit, garments and textiles, footwear, and electronics, according to the secretary.

South Africa can provide maize, fruit, cattle and poultry-related products, and mineral ores to serve Vietnam ’s food processing and metallurgy industries as well as offer cooperation in mineral exploration and exploitation, Adriaann Du Pisanie said.

In terms of investment in South Africa , Vietnamese companies can explore options in the areas of agricultural product processing, tourism, apparel, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and information technology, said Le Dinh Buu Tri, SCIC director in HCM City .

The South Africa Consulate Office in HCM City assured participants they would provide further information and documentation on legal procedures, the economic environment of both countries and areas of investment./.
