Vietnamese javelin-throwing athlete Nguyen Truong Giang won a gold medal and broke the national record at the 15 th ASEAN University Games (AUG), held in Chiang Mai city, Thailand from Dec. 14-23.
Giang broke his own national record of 69.04m with a throwing distance of 72.05m. Silver and bronze medals went to two Thai competitors.
This is the first time Giang, a third-year student from the Ho Chi Minh City Sports and Physical Education University, has taken part in the AUG.
Also on December 21, Vietnam martial artists won six gold, a silver and a bronze medal in taekwondo and pencak silat events.
By the end of the day on Dec. 21, Vietnam had won 16 gold, 10 silver and 8 bronze medals, ranking fourth in the medal tally, following Thailand , Indonesia and Malaysia./.
