The 20th Malaysian International Furniture Fair (MIFF) took place at Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur from March 4-8, drawing more than 500 enterprises from 13 countries and territories across the world, including Vietnam.

On display are wide ranges of the latest products including furniture for offices, living rooms, bedrooms and kitchens.

At Vietnam’s booth, the Thien Thuong Antique Sailing Boat Company has introduced Malaysian and international visitors to its high-quality and sophisticated wooden handicraft products.

Thien Thuong Director Vuong Dinh Sac said his company’s products have been exported to many countries such as the US, the Netherlands and the Republic of Korea and it is now seeking to expand its market further in Asia, especially to Malaysia.

According to Deputy Secretary General of Trade under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia (MIFF), Mohd Ridzal Sheriff, the fair aims to provide a strategic platform for worldwide furniture suppliers to set up a network of furniture businesses.

MIFF Chairman Tan Chin Huat expressed his hope that through the event the Malaysian furniture industry will see an at least a 5 percent increase in its sales this year.

In 2013, Malaysia’s furniture export turnover through contracts signed at the similar annual fair accounted for 37 percent of the country’s 7.4 billion RM turnover.

The chairman said Malaysia was the eighth largest exporter of furniture in the world last year just after Vietnam, which had sales reaching 4.5 billion USD in 2013.-VNA
