Vietnamese Ambassador to the Netherlands Huynh Minh Chinh as a proxy for the Vietnamese Government signed the convention in the presence of representatives from the Netherlands’ Foreign Ministry and the Permanent Bureau of the Hague Conference on International Private Law,

The signing of the convention, the first within the Hague Conference on International Private Law signed by Vietnam, marked the country’s important step in integration into multilateral cooperation in international private law.

Together with the Law on Adoption, which will take effect on Jan. 1, 2011, the accession to the convention will help Vietnam to have a comprehensive legal framework for domestic and foreign-related adoption for the sake of children, including Vietnamese ones.

Addressing the signing ceremony, Ambassador Chinh stressed that the Vietnamese Government would soon complete legal procedures for the execution of the convention in the country.

He also spoke of Vietnam’s wish to engage more in the Hague Conference on International Private Law to facilitate the country’s international integration./.
