Vietnam’s defence minister has proposed the Defence Ministries of Vietnam and Singapore should build a long-term cooperation plan and increase the exchange of delegations in order to seek more effective measures to promote bilateral ties.

Defence Minister Phung Quang Thanh made the suggestion at a reception for Chan Yeng Kit, Permanent Secretary at the Singaporean Ministry of Defence, in Hanoi on July 22.

He noted with pleasure the comprehensive cooperation between the two nations, especially defence ties, with the signing of an agreement on defence cooperation and many joint activities in the fields of navy, army medicine, defence industry and foreign language training.

For his part, Chan Yeng Kit affirmed that his country always attaches importance to its strategic cooperation with Vietnam, especially in defence.

Singapore wishes to share experience with Vietnam in peacekeeping force building, search and rescue, navy and army medicine as well as English language training for military officers.-VNA
