Vietnam snaps bronze at regional skill competition

Other Vietnamese contestants, Vu Quang Anh, Nguyen Quoc Cuong and Ngo Huu Hung grabbed special prizes respectively in automobile technology, information technology and electronics.

The gold medal belongs to Mohamad Sharifuddin, a competitor from host Malaysia .

The competition entitled "Towards world-class vocational teachers” drew the participation of numerous candidates from vocational organisations and schools in ASEAN member countries.

Tran Van Lich, who led Vietnamese participants, said that this was the first time, Vietnam had won prizes at the competition.

Amid a serious shortage of skillful workers in ASEAN, the competition is a significant event as it will encourage vocational teachers to raise their expertise and skills, helping turn out skillful workers for economic development in the region, affirmed Lich.

As the chair of ASEAN, Vietnam strongly endorsed Malaysia ’s initiative of holding skill competitions for vocational teachers annually and urged regional countries to actively join discussions to put forwards common regulations for the competitions, he said./.
