A Vietnamese diplomat has confirmed Vietnam ’s support for and its cooperation with the United Nations Security Council (UNSC)’s Committees to enhance regional and international efforts to prevent terrorism and consolidate international peace and security.

Vietnam ’s deputy representative to the UNSC Ambassador Hoang Chi Trung made the statement at the council’s discussion on the work of the Counter-Terrorism Committee, the Al-Qaida and Taliban Sanctions Committee, and the Committee on Non-Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction in the remaining half of the year, which was held in New York on Nov. 13.

“ Viet Nam acknowledges with serious concerns the complex development in the fight against international terrorism, in particular the evolving threats posed to international peace and security and the tragic consequences inflicted upon innocent people by terrorist attacks,” said the ambassador.

He took the occasion to call for further UN’s efforts to promote international cooperation in countering terrorism.

Highlighting the fulfillment of heavy work programmes by all three committees, Ambassador Trung emphasised the need to enhance direct conversations between the three Sub-Committees and representatives of the Member States and improve their procedures and the cost-effectiveness in the work of the committees’ expert bodies.

We support the efforts of these expert bodies to contribute to and coordinate their work within the framework of the Counter-Terrorism Implementation Task Force (CTITF) to help implement the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, said the Vietnamese diplomat./.
