Vietnamese U19 national team clinched a bronze medal with a 3-0 win over Malaysia in the third-placed play-off at ASEAN U19 Youth Football Championship on August 12.

In the final on August 12, Thailand won the championship after beating Australia 3-2 on penalties after the two sides drew 2-2 after extra time.

Vietnam and Malaysia , who seemed to be tired after semi-finals on August 10, started the match slowly and somewhat cautiously in the first half. But hosts Vietnam maintained the upper hand.

In the 14 th minute, Nguyen Dinh Bao had a face-to-face situation with Malaysian goalkeeper Mohd Khairul Izzuwan, but his shot went off the goal.

From a quick attack on the right, Nguyen Dinh Bao slipped past a Malaysian defender before delivering a powerful shot from the edge of the box to the far corner to open the score.

Le Quoc Phuong doubled the lead for the hosts in the 35 th minute with a freekick on the right.

After the break, the Malaysia team played with nine men when Mohd Irfan Fazail was sent off with a foul on Huynh Van Thanh, while Arasu got red card for a bad reaction against the referee.

Vietnam took the advantage to dominate the game with clear chances, but their strikers missed.

The host scored one more goal when Ha Minh Tuan headed home off a cross from Trinh Hao Hung in the 68 th minute to complete the convincing win./.
