Vietnam wants to learn from China and its fellow members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ (ASEAN) experiences in judicial reform so as to build a strong, democratic and firm judiciary, emphasised State President Nguyen Minh Triet.

President Triet made the statement while receiving visiting Procurator-General of the Supreme People’s Procuracy of China (SPPC) Cao Jianming in Hanoi on Nov. 23.

The State leader applauded the talks between the Supreme People’s Procuracy of Vietnam (SPPV) and China ’s counterpart as well as measures to boost their ties.

He took the occasion to propose that the SPPC assist the SPPV in training procurators and suggested that both sides up the exchange of visits at all levels as well as experiences in legislation and effective cooperation in judicial assistance activities and the fight against trans-national crimes.

As regards Vietnam-China relations, President Triet said he was delighted at the development of comprehensive cooperation and friendship between the two Parties, States and peoples.

He emphasised the time-honoured relationship between the two Parties, States and peoples, saying that Vietnam wants to join China in enhancing cooperation for mutual development and to contribute to peace, friendship, cooperation and development in the region and the world at large.

President Triet asked Chinese senior procurator Cao to convey his best regards to President Hu Jintao and other senior leaders of China .

Chinese senior procurator Cao, who is in Vietnam for the sixth China-ASEAN Prosecutors General Conference slated for Nov. 24-26 in Hanoi, affirmed the fine development of the two countries’ cooperation in procuracy, not only at the supreme level, but also at the provincial level, along their shared border.

Central and local procuracy agencies from both sides have held regular exchanges of information, and provided judicial assistance and personnel training programmes, he added.

Both the SPPV and the SPPC share a common awareness that the exchange of delegations at all levels and promoting relations between border procuracy agencies contribute to the effectiveness of the fight against trans-national crime. The SPPC is ready to assist the SPPV in training procurators, Cao affirmed.

“ China attaches importance to China-Vietnam cooperation as well as the China-ASEAN cooperation framework in procuracy,” emphasised Cao, adding that the theme of the conference on judicial assistance in fighting trans-national crimes is an important issue in the current context./.
