Vietnam, Thailand share rice information

Vietnamese and Thai officials and experts have shared the latest information on rice production and export situation in their countries as well as the world food prices.

At their annual meeting inChiang Mai, Thailand, on Sept. 16, the two sides discussed the prospectof including cooperation in the rice issue into the regional cooperationprogramme towards the building the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in2015.

Representatives of the Vietnam Food Association (VinaFood)and the Thai Rice Exporters Association (TREA) also signed a memorandumof understanding on information exchange in the related field.

Theannual meeting between VinaFood and TREA took place when the Thai newgovernment plans to apply again the policy to buy rice from localfarmers at high prices.

Thailand and Vietnam are two biggest riceexporters in the world, controlling around half of the rice volumetraded in the international market.

Thailand plans to export morethan 10 million tonnes of rice this year and the figure may reduce to 8million tonnes in 2012 due to impacts of the new policy./.

Can Tho, Guangxi seek collaboration in logistics, supply chains

Chinese investors now back 35 projects in Can Tho with registered capital of nearly 1.2 billion USD. In the first seven months of 2026, Can Tho’s exports to China hit 77.5 million USD, while imports stood at 64.7 million USD. Key exports included rice, seafood, farm produce, processed agricultural products and apparel while main imports comprised agricultural chemicals, veterinary medicines, fertilisers, chemicals, fabrics and other materials and inputs.

Vietnam, Russia move to boost financial cooperation

On bilateral economic, trade and investment ties, Tuan said two-way trade hit 3.24 billion USD in the first seven months of 2026, up 12% from a year earlier. Vietnam’s exports to Russia totaled 1.33 billion USD, while imports amounted to 1.91 billion USD.
