Vietnam plans to send a large squad of athletes to compete in 30 of the 42 events to be held at the 16 th Asian Games (ASIAD 16) in Guangzhou, China, from Nov. 12-27, 2010, said Hoang Vinh Giang, Deputy President of the Vietnamese Olympic Committee.

The Vietnamese official announced the teams schedule at a press briefing in Ho Chi Minh City on June 8, held by the 16 th ASIAD organising board and the Vietnamese Olympic Committee.

Nearly 20,000 athletes, coaches and officials from 45 countries and territories will take part in the games and 10,000 journalists will cover it.

China has sponsored two support groups to travel by sea and land to other Asian countries to promote the games. The Cocachin ship departed from Kuwait in March and has arrived in Ho Chi Minh City on June 8. Its next destination will be Thailand and its final stop will be Guangzhou in November this year.

The other group is travelling in a westward direction.
