The Hanoi New Choir includes 14 members, most of whom are children, said the Vietnam Opera Ballet Theatre on July 8.

The group will compete in the “Folk Choir” event and give performances on outdoor stages before audiences including locals and foreign visitors.

As many as 500 troupes with 30,000 artists from more than 100 countries throughout the world are expected to join the games, which will feature 34 competition events designed for different ages and music types.

Conductor Pham Hong Hai, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Opera Ballet Theatre, was invited to join a 100-member international jury at the biennial games.

This is the third time a Vietnamese contingent has taken part in such an international event. In 2008, a children’s choir set up by the theatre won a silver medal at the fifth World Choir Games in Austria . And a year later, a troupe from the SOL Arts centre brought home a bronze from the second Asian Choir Games in Busan, the Republic of Korea .

The seventh World Choir Games will be held in the US in July 2012./.
