Vietnam will be the host of the 132nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-132) scheduled for 2015.

The decision was made on March 27 by the IPU Governing Council during a session as part of the 128th Assembly of the IPU (IPU-128) in Quito, Ecuador.

In last August, Vietnam’s National Assembly officially submitted a proposal to host the IPU-132. The IPU Secretariat earlier this year surveyed Vietnam’s commitments and organisation capacity, and highly valued its plan for the event.

At the IPU-128, the country’s proposal also received support from all members of ASEAN+3 (including China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea) and the Asia-Pacific Group (APG).

Vietnamese National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan led a delegation to the IPU-128, which concluded on the same day.

During her stay in Ecuador, Ngan met with the leaders of the host country to seek ways to strengthen Vietnam-Ecuador multi-faceted cooperation as well as consolidate the relations between the two countries’ legislative bodies.-VNA
