The World Economic Forum (WEF) has decided to select Vietnam as host country for the WEF East Asia Meeting 2010.

A WEF representative announced the decision on Sept. 11 at a press briefing in Dalian city, China , where the 2009 WEF Annual Meeting of New Champions is taking place.

The selection was based on Vietnam ’s economic development experience in recent years and the country’s participation in the WEF’s Dalian meetings at various levels.

A Vietnamese delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai, is currently attending the WEF’s Dalian meeting, which opened on Sept. 10 and will close in Sept. 12.
The meeting has attracted nearly 1,400 business leaders and policy makers from 86 countries and territories.

This year’s WEF selected Vietnam as one of the “outstanding nations” in the economic recovery process, and asked the Southeast Asian country to share its experiences in building up its competitiveness as well as the rapid development of the Vietnamese business community./.
