The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) and Belgium’s Port of Zeebrugge have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the establishment of a tra fish distribution centre in the European Union (EU).

The move is part of the cooperation agreement between the Vietnamese and Belgian Governments to bolster the country’s seafood exports and distribution to the EU.

Positioned at a favourable location with easy access to the port of Le Havre in France and the German port of Hamburg, Zeebrugge Port will serve as a gateway into the European market, CEO of the Belgian port Joachim Coens said.

Under the MoU, there will be a direct sea route from Vietnam to the port next year, helping shorten transport time and costs for Vietnamese exporters, added the CEO. The port is running electronic auction services that allow tra fish exporters to connect to the distribution system and offer their products at more reasonable prices instead of selling tra fish separately as they did traditionally.-VNA
