The Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications and the UK government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in information and communications in Hanoi on Oct. 14.
Under the MoU, Vietnam and the UK will boost bilateral cooperation in information and communications, especially in areas such as the exchange of information, experiences and viewpoints, cooperation in law-making as well as management policies relating to the field; and encouraging and supporting cooperation between businesses in both countries.
The MoU also focuses on boosting and prioritising cooperation in human resources and training programmes as well as the exchange and cooperation between experts and technicians of the two nations in studying new services and technologies.
The MoU defines several areas for cooperation in the media such as increasing policy dialogues between agencies about the press’s role in society, sharing viewpoints on the completion and implementation of laws regarding the press’s activities in Vietnam, and bolstering cooperation in human resources in order to build a professional media industry.
Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Do Quy Doan said the MoU clearly reinforces the strategic partnership the two nations established last September.
He said the signing is of significance as it took place before the UK visit by a high-ranking delegation of the ministry to explore activities performed by the media.
The Vietnamese delegation is scheduled to visit UK major press agencies such as BBC and Reuters./.
