The two legislative bodies of Vietnam and the United Kingdom should exchange experience in law making and supervising skills as well as cooperate in training their members.

Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Tong Thi Phong made the statement in Hanoi on Sept. 20 while receiving a delegation of the UK-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians Group headed by MP Mark Hendrick.

She said NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung will pay a visit to the UK , describing it as a major event to increase the relations between the two countries.

Phong spoke highly of the significance of the working visit by the UK parliamentarians from Sept. 18-23 in boosting the Vietnam-UK friendship.

She thanked the UK Government for providing official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam’s fight against poverty and drug.

The Vietnam-UK cooperative relationship is a strategic partnership which has shown effectiveness in many fields, the Vice Chairwoman affirmed, saying that Vietnam attaches importance to develop ties in economics, trade, investment and education-training with the UK. She noted that in recent years, the two sides have promoted cooperation in defence-security, environment and climate change.

MP Mark Hendrick highly valued Vietnam’s efforts in education with the literate rate of 95 percent, a high proportion compared to other countries in the world.

He also remarked that Vietnam has obtained significant achievements in socio-economic development the UK-Vietnam friendship has seen increasing development.

He said in the coming time, the two sides need to increase friendship and share experience between the two parliaments./.
