The increase of exchange programmes between Vietnamese and US universities and colleges will serve as a practical impetus to boost education cooperation between the two countries.

According to a report from the Task Force on Vietnam-US education cooperation, which was signed in Hanoi on Sept. 30, the two countries will work to set up the first Vietnam-US university in Vietnam.

The two sides will consider increasing scholarships for Vietnamese students with the aim of raising the number of Vietnamese students, particularly post-graduates, attending prestigious US universities.

In addition, programmes to provide Vietnamese students with the skills and knowledge necessary to serve the country’s cause of industrialisation and modernisation will be designed.

The US side will also assist Vietnam in assessing the quality of education and English instruction.

The Task Force on Education Cooperation was set up in accordance with a memorandum of understanding signed in the US capital of Washington D.C. in June last year./.
