Vietnam, US trade unions boost cooperation

A delegation of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour led by Vice President Nguyen Thi Thu Hong paid a working visit to the US from Sept. 5-11 at the invitation of the American Federation of Labour and Congress of Industrial Organisation (AFL-CIO).

The visit aims to promote ties between the trade unions of Vietnam and the US.

At working sessions with AFL-CIO representatives, the two sides shared experience in trade union activities and discussed ways to strengthen cooperative ties in the field between the two countries in the future.

The US side spoke highly of the achievements recorded by Vietnam’s trade union, including revising labour law and expressed its hope to further step up cooperation with the Vietnamese side.

During the visit, the delegation also met and held talks with representatives from the Departments of Labour and State and the office of the US Trade Representative.

At the meetings, the delegation shared its opinion on protecting the rights of labourers in the process of international integration and economic cooperation.

During their stay in the US, the Vietnamese delegates visited the Cornell University and the Community University in New York to seek out cooperative opportunities in research and trade unionist training.-VNA
