Vietnam attaches importance to boosting cooperation with Ukraine, especially in politics, economics, trade, hi-tech, education and training, said State President Nguyen Minh Triet.

While receiving Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament Lytvyn Volodymyr in Hanoi on December 7, President Triet said Vietnam always created favourable conditions for Ukrainian groups to seek investment and business cooperation opportunities in the country.

He applauded the Ukrainian Parliament Speaker’s visit, saying that it was an important milestone in the development of the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

The State leader emphasized the gratitude of generations of Vietnamese to the Ukrainian people for their assistance to Vietnam during the struggle for national independence in the past and the current national development.

He also thanked the Ukrainian authorities at all levels for facilitating the Vietnamese community’s activities in Ukraine .

The current situation is opening up good opportunities for the future of the bilateral ties, Triet said, adding that together with strengthening relations between the two Parliaments and parliamentarian groups, Vietnam and Ukraine should step up people-to-people diplomacy and diversify cooperation forms.

For his part, Speaker Lytvyn Volodymyr said Ukraine also attached importance to developing friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam .

He said the meeting between Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and State President Nguyen Minh Triet in New York in September 2010 was a premise for bringing bilateral ties to a new height.

Ukraine wished to strengthen its relations with Vietnam in traditional fields and expand cooperation to new areas such as hi-tech and energy, he noted.

The top legislator expressed his belief in the bright future of Vietnam with a promising young generation and the country was becoming an attractive destination for young Ukrainians.

On the occasion, Hanoi National University granted an Honourary Doctorate degree to the Ukrainian Parliament Speaker./.
