More than 30 projects worth over 2 million EUR in a cooperation agreement with Vietnam during 2010-2012 have been approved by Belgium’s French-speaking community in the capital city of Brussels and throughout the region of Wallonie.

It was approved at the seventh session of the Joint Standing Committee for Vietnam and the Wallonie region in Hanoi on Nov. 11 and 12 with Nguyen The Phuong, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment and Philippe Suinen, General Director of the Wallonie-Brussels International Cooperation Agency in attendance.

Under the agreement, both parties will focus their joint work on tertiary and higher education, vocational training, heritage conservation, cultural diversification, sustainable development, international integration, research and improving existing technologies.

The projects during 2010-2012 between Vietnam and Wallonie will be carried out extensively based on understanding and mutual trust, said Philippe Suinen.

At the session, the joint committee reviewed projects during the 2007-2009 period and agreed that most of the projects had met their targets.

This region of Belgium is one of Europe’s most developed areas in terms of science, the bio-chemical industry, food production, mechanical engineering, transport, logistics, space and aviation and Vietnam needs support in all these sectors./.
