Vietnam welcomes Cuba and the US’s opening of their respective embassies in one another’s country, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Le Hai Binh said at a regular press conference on July 23.

He said Vietnam considers the opening of the embassies a positive and concrete step towards completely normalising the relationship between Cuba and the US for the legitimate interests of the countries’ peoples.

The move also greatly contributes to sustaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world at large, he added.

Regarding the unanimous adoption of the United Nations Security Council’s Resolution 2231 endorsing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Iran’s nuclear programme, Binh stressed that Vietnam applauds the ratification of the resolution on July 20 and advocates the effective implementation of the document which will help ensure regional and global peace, stability, cooperation and development.

When asked about reports that Singapore did not permit a number of Vietnamese tourists to enter, the spokesman quoted the Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore as saying on July 22 that Singapore has yet to make any official announcements on the issue to Vietnam.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs ordered its agencies and the embassy to liaise with local authorised bodies to verify related information and work out appropriate settlement measures in order to ensure the legitimate rights and interests of Vietnamese citizens on the basis of bilateral and ASEAN agreements, he noted.-VNA
