Vietnam will spare no effort for the strong development of ASEAN Banks Association (ABA), affirmed Pham Huy Hung, Chairman of Vietnam Bank Association (VBA) when assuming the post of ABA Chairman for the 2009-2011 term.

The country will also promote the activities of the ABA and ASEAN, especially through regular meetings of regional financial and economic ministers, with the aim of successfully establishing the ASEAN community by 2015, the new Chairman added while addressing the 39th meeting of the ABA, which ended November 20 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

He went on to say that the assumption of the ABA Chairmanship is an honour for Vietnam’s banking industry, especially at a time when Vietnam is going to be ASEAN Chair. On this occasion, Hung also highlighted the ABA’s target of seeking opportunities and creating conditions for all ABA member banks to develop in step with the strongly-growing economies of the region.

ABA was established in 1976 with the initial participation of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Now, it also includes Brunei, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos./.
