Vietnamese disabled athletes have won 24 gold medals up to August 16, the second competition day of the 5th ASEAN Para Games being held in Malaysia.

The Vietnamese team ranked second in the medal tally at that day.

The first gold medal was carried off by Nguyen Thi Hong Chau in the women’s 100m F44 injury category on August 15.

In the second competition day, track-and-fields athletes won 14 gold medals.

Swimming contributed six gold medals. Nguyen Thi Sa Ri broke the record in the 50m free-style and breast stroke, while Du Thi Lan broke the record in the 400m and 100m free-style.

Weight-lifting recorded two gold medals in the men’s 48kg category and in the women’s 40kg category.

Table tennis gained one gold medal at the event.

By the end of August 16, Vietnam had also won 18 silvers and 10 bronzes.

At the ASEAN Para Games in Thailand two years ago, Vietnam came third with 78 gold, 66 silver and 43 bronze medals./.
