With 34 golds, 16 silvers and 14 bronzes, the Vietnamese team ranked fourth at the 15 th Asian University Games (AUG), which concluded in Chiang Mai City, Thailand, on Dec. 23 after nine days of competition.

The host team, Thailand , snatched the first place with 161 medals. It was followed by Indonesia with 147 medals and Malaysia with 115 medals.

Addressing the closing ceremony, Thai Education Deputy Minister Chinnaworn Bunyahiat said the biennial event, the biggest of its kind in the Southeast Asian region, contributes to further bolstering solidarity and friendship among regional students and raising universities’ sporting movements in the region.

The 16th AUG will be organised in Laos in 2012./.
