Vietnam won the annual International Women’s Volleyball Tournament for the second time after beating a club from Ukraine 3-0 in the finals on Aug. 22 in Dac Lac province.

The Vietnamese team strolled through the tournament without losing a single game.

Among the starts of the tournament were Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa, Dinh Thi Dieu Chau and Bui Thi Hue. Setter Dang Thi Hong, who returned to the national team after a two-year absence, also had an excellent tournament.

The laurels went to Hoa who was named Best Player, Best Blocker and Best Attacker of the tournament.

It took Vietnam 90 minutes to dispatch the Ukrainian team 25-23, 27-25, 25-23, and win 50,000 USD in prize money.

The closest the Ukrainian girls came to causing an upset was in the second half of the match when they led Vietnam 23-22.

Earlier, a Chinese club from Guangzong province defeated a team from Phuket in Thailand 25-19, 25-22, 14-25, 25-22 to take the bronze medal.

The VTV Cup is ideal preparation for the coming SEA Games in Laos, where Vietnam is hoping to beat champions Thailand, who defeated Japan, ther US and Puerto Rico at the World Grand Prix./.
