The Vietnam-Cambodia Joint Working Group on drafting regulations on joint management and use of water resources along the two countries’ border on June 13 began its 10th meeting with Cambodia’s National Mekong Committee and Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology.

Head of the group and permanent office chief of the Vietnam National Mekong Committee Le Duc Trung said that the group’s efforts will contribute to the work.

On the basis of the agreement reached at the inter-governmental committee’s meeting last February, this meeting will examine and supplement issues relating to water resources joint management and use in line with the principles set in the 1995 Agreement on Cooperation for Sustainable Development of Mekong River Basin while ensuring the common interest of people in both countries.

The session’s results will be submitted to higher level authorities for approval and inclusion into the drafting process of an agreement on joint management and use of water resources along the Vietnam-Cambodia border.

The session is attended by members of the national Mekong committees of both countries and officials of Cambodian provinces bordering Vietnam.-VNA
