Hanoi (VNA) – The action movie “Hai Phuong” (Furie) starring Ngo Thanh Van has won acclaim from audiences and international movie experts.

IMDb, the world's most popular source for movie, TV and celebrity content reviews, rated the film 8.4/10.

“Hai Phuong” will hit the US screens on March 1 after its premiere in Vietnam on February 22 with English sub-titles.

Directed by Le Van Kiet, it tells the story of a woman from the Mekong Delta whose daughter has been kidnapped. She embarks on a journey to find her against all odds.

Ngo Thanh Van, also known as Veronica Ngo, starred in and produced the film as part of her efforts to introduce Vietnamese cinema to the world.

Van is best known for a brief role in the Hollywood film “The Last Jedi”. She has also starred in “The Rebel”, “Clash” and “The Tailor”.

“Hai Phuong” is likely to be Van’s last action film. At the age of 40, Van said she is tired of action scenes and wants to give a chance for younger actors to shine.

The movie will also compete for the Grand Prix and Most Promising Talent Award in the Osaka Asian Film Festival next month.-VNA
