Talking with the newly-accredited ambassador, President Fernandez saidshe is delighted at the thought of visiting Vietnam this comingNovember. She asked the ambassador to convey her greetings to StatePresident Nguyen Minh Triet and the Vietnamese people.

For his part, Ambassador Dao said he felt honoured to be Vietnam ’srepresentative in Argentina , especially as relations between the twocountries are rapidly developing.

Vietnam-Argentina ties have been getting stronger in many areas for overa decade with several exchanges of senior level visits, including thevisit to Hanoi by former President Carlos Menem in February 1997 andvisits to Argentina by former President Tran Duc Luong and the thenNational Assembly Chairman Nguyen Van An in November 2004 and March 2006as well as by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung three months ago.

During the 1999-2000 period, two-way trade value rose continuously,from 11.52 million USD to 653.2 million USD. Since 2000, the SoutheastAsian country has been an important trading partner for Argentina./.

During the event, the Vietnamese delegation met with major French defence firms, including Airbus and UNAC, to discuss technology transfer, human resource training, technical support and defence industry development.
