Talking with the newly-accredited ambassador, President Fernandez said she is delighted at the thought of visiting Vietnam this coming November. She asked the ambassador to convey her greetings to State President Nguyen Minh Triet and the Vietnamese people.

For his part, Ambassador Dao said he felt honoured to be Vietnam ’s representative in Argentina , especially as relations between the two countries are rapidly developing.

Vietnam-Argentina ties have been getting stronger in many areas for over a decade with several exchanges of senior level visits, including the visit to Hanoi by former President Carlos Menem in February 1997 and visits to Argentina by former President Tran Duc Luong and the then National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Van An in November 2004 and March 2006 as well as by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung three months ago.

During the 1999-2000 period, two-way trade value rose continuously, from 11.52 million USD to 653.2 million USD. Since 2000, the Southeast Asian country has been an important trading partner for Argentina./.
