Vietnamese army’s foundation celebrated in Asia, Europe

During a December 22 ceremony attended by Lao VicePresident Bounnhang Volachit and Deputy Prime Ministers SomsavadLengsavad and Phankham Viphavanh, Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Manh Hungreviewed the formation, development, and resounding victories of theVietnam People’s Army (VPA), such as the Dien Bien Phu Campaign in 1954that ended the French colonial rule in Indochina, the “Dien Bien Phu onair” Campaign in 1972 that defeated the US airstrike in Hanoi, and theHo Chi Minh Campaign in 1975 that liberated southern Vietnam andreunified the country.

Nowadays, the VPA is further developed soas to firmly safeguard national independence, sovereignty andterritorial integrity, while actively and proactively integrating intothe international community and increasing cooperation with armiesaround the world, especially with the Lao People’s Army, he said.

Ata similar ceremony the same day held by the Vietnamese Embassy and theVietnamese Attaché’s Office in Phnom Penh, Cambodian Deputy PrimeMinister and Defence Minister Tea Banh said under the sagaciousleadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the VPA has continuouslydeveloped and fulfilled the international mission of helping his countryabolish the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime in January 1979.

TheCambodian and Vietnamese armies have been standing side by sidethroughout history and will expand their mutual support in the future,he added.

On this occasion, the Royal Cambodian Army organised aphoto exhibition on the solidarity and cooperation between the twoarmies.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials and war veterans highlyvalued the heroic tradition of the VPA while attending a December 22ceremony marking its 70th founding anniversary hosted by theVietnamese Embassy in Kiev.

They voiced their wish for strengthened friendship and multifaceted cooperation, including in defence, between the two nations.

OnDecember 21, the Vietnamese community in Germany also marked the VPA’sfoundation with a number of activities across the European country.-VNA

16th NA reviews amendments to four tax-related laws on April 21

Lawmakers are expected to discuss the supplementary assessment of the implementation of the 2025 socio-economic development plan and state budget, as well as performance in the early months of 2026. Draft law proposes flexible tax thresholds, extended incentives for EVs

Lawmakers suggest groundbreaking mechanisms to revive Vietnamese culture

The draft resolution seeks to lure more investment into cultural industries, aiming for the sector to contribute 7% to GDP by 2030 and 9% by 2045. It also sets ambitious goals of ranking Vietnam among the top three countries in Southeast Asia and the global top 30 for national soft power.

Pathways to double-digit growth to be tabled at 16th NA’s first session

In the morning sitting on April 20, deputies are expected to hear proposals and verification reports on a range of draft resolutions. The documents cover breakthrough mechanisms and policies for the development of Vietnamese culture; the establishment of Dong Nai as a centrally run city; a pilot framework for public lawyer institution; and special mechanisms to address land law violations committed prior to the 2024 Land Law taking effect, alongside measures to resolve long-delayed and stalled projects.

NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man’s working trip to Italy and Türkiye achieved important and comprehensive results at both bilateral and multilateral levels.
