Seoul (VNA) – A 21-member executive board of the Vietnamese association in the Republic of Korea for the 2017-2019 tenure was elected at the association’s conference in Seoul on July 8 which reviewed its 2015-2017 activities and outline tasks for 2017-2019 tenure.

Nguyen Ngoc Cam, Honorary Mayor of Seoul was elected as chairwoman while Tran Hai Linh, Chairman of the association’s executive board for the 2015-2017 tenure, as Honorary Chairman.

Speaking at the event, Linh said nearly 150,000 Vietnamese people are living and working in the RoK.

In the past years, the association held a number of cultural and sport festivals, provided support for multi-cultural Vietnam-RoK families and Vietnamese nationals living in need in both the RoK and the home country. Notably, a photo exhibition affirming Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos and requiems for Vietnamese martyrs were also held while a fund “For Vietnam’s sea and island sovereignty” was established.

During the third tenure from 2017-2019, the association will continue popularising images of Vietnam and its people, particularly in 2017 when Vietnam and the RoK celebrate the 25th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties.

In his speech, Vietnamese Ambassador to the RoK Nguyen Vu Tu committed support to the association so that the Vietnamese nationals in the RoK could further contribute to bilateral ties.-VNA
